QCM Witty's Wine Down
Witty's Wine Down (4th Annual) was another very successful women's-focused evening ahead of the Quad Cities Marathon! There was wine, music, gifts, charcuterie, and a sizeable donation for an incredible cause. Dress was cocktail attire and running sneakers because … WHY. NOT! The event raised money for Shoes for QC Kids.
Check out the photos of the evening include a potpourri of shoes.

Quad Cities Marathon Photography Team
2024 Quad Cities Marathon Photography Team: JR Howell, Erling Larson, Larry Engstrom, Erin Gehn, Dave Weiss, Mark VandeWiele, and Mark Stegmaier. Not Pictured: Ryan Gaines, Isla Gaines, Courtney Huisenga, Tom Moye, Mark Steward, and Leanne Wildermuth.
We have a great team to capture the 2024 Quad Cities Marathon in photographs. In alphabetical order we have:
Larry Engstrom
This is Larry's seventh year capturing the Quad Cities Marathon as part of the official team. I'm sure he has done a few more before 2018 as well. Larry has also captured many of UTHS running events over the years and will be capturing lots of the weekend's festivities. Larry will be capturing runners coming down the ramp into Moline from the Rock Island Arsenal.
Ryan Gaines / Isla Gaines
Ryan is a sports photographer that will be capturing images on the Rock Island Arsenal with his daughter Isla. This is Ryan's third year on our team and Isla's third.
Erin Gehn
Erin lives in Rock Island and is shooting aerial pictures from the Arsenal Bridge. This is her second year volunteering.
JR Howell
I've been shooting the Quad Cities Marathon since 2012 and have had the honor of leading the photography team since 2016. I typically shoot at the Start Finish Line, but I also set up videos of the Start and this year a Live Feed of the finish. I also handle most of the other shooting assignments outside of race weekend.
Courtney Huisenga
Courtney is an aspiring new portrait photographer in the area and will be shooting PR Bell and Group photos just past the finish line area.
Erling Larson
This is Erling Larson's seventh year shooting the Quad Cities Marathon as part of the Photography Team. He started in 2017 and missed the COVID year 2020. Erling typically shoots the start from the overpass at the Moline viaduct to the Arsenal and the Finish line. He also shoots events on Saturday of race weekend.
Tom Moye
This is Tom's fourth year shooting the Quad Cities Marathon after shooting in 2019. Tom plans to shoot around Leach Park in Bettendorf this year.
Mark Steward
Mark Steward is a videographer that I met while shooting for Brooke Maroon's Breaking Limits Dance Workshop. I'm excited that I was able to talk him into joining our team to shoot some drone and handheld video of our event. This is Mark's second year.
Mark Stegmaier
Mark is a long standing member of the Quad Cities running community and this will be his sixth year shooting the Quad Cities Marathon as part of the official team.
Darrell Terronez
This is Darrell's sixth year shooting for the Quad Cities Marathon. You'll also see his shots for other races in East Moline like the Freedom and Firecracker Runs.
Mark VandeWiele
Mark is a retired judge that took up photography in his retirement. I found him shooting the UTHS Panther Pant and convinced him to join our team. This is his third year shooting the Quad Cities Marathon. He'll be capturing images as the runners cross the I74 bridge.
Dave Weiss
Dave Weiss is a retired portrait and wedding photographer and videographer. After spending 3.5 years touring America in a Class-A RV with his wife and dog, he has just recently settled down in our area and offered to join our team.
Leanne Wildermuth
This is Leanne's eighth year shooting for our Quad Cities Marathon Team. She specializes in runners "jumping" for their pictures. I'm not sure if it's joy or delusion … she has historically done photos around John O'Donnell Stadium (Modern Woodmen Park) and will be shooting around the Centennial Bridge this year.
We plan to have thousands of photos of participants and the events surrounding the Quad Cities Marathon weekend. I hope we capture everyone that participates. These will be available sometime the week following the race as free digital downloads and will be searchable by Bib Number.
We have a great team to capture a great event.

2014 Quad Cities Marathon
It was a beautiful day for the annual Quad City Marathon. I always enjoy shooting this event as it is such an accomplishment for everyone that finishes. Thanks go out to Ken Arevalo for including me on the photographer team. I shot some pictures of the start, went to downtown rock island to shoot a few with the Centennial Bridge in the background, then back to the finish line for the leaders and the rest. Here are a couple hundred of my “picks” of the day.
2013 Quad Cities Marathon
I had the opportunity to shoot the Quad City Marathon again this year. It was a blast! The theme that I’d say was predominant this year was “EMOTIONAL”! I spent a lot of time at the finish line shooting finishers. The Relay Teams were excited and full of energy. The marathoners were different. A number came in completely spent and exhausted. Some had some left and had a kick to the end. The thing that got to me the most was the emotion of the first time marathoners when they came across the finish line. After all, they’ve been training for this moment for most of a year and a number of them just broke down. It was really touching and I really felt proud for every one of them. It’s so great to be close to the action. I tried to capture a little of it in photos.
2012 Quad Cities Marathon
The Quad Cities Marathon started at 7:30 AM this morning and 2 hours and 19 minutes later the winner crosses the finish line. More photos later …
That’s how I started off the blog entry this morning …
After hanging out at the finish line watching all the marathoners, 1/2 marathons, and relay teams come in … I discovered that the story today isn’t about the winner, the women’s winner, or even the finishers. Today’s story is really about Joe Moreno. I haven’t been around this event much before, but I had a blast today. There is just a whole lot of energy and feeling of accomplishment here. And the energy seems to flow from Race Director, Joe Moreno. This photo shows him congratulating and cheering on the women’s winner. He did this for every single finisher … and he seemed to know everyone by name. Every finisher got a personal “high five” and “great job” from Joe. You can tell he just has great passion for this event and is really, really enjoying himself today.
Great event Joe! Thank YOU for all of your passion, energy, and hard work that made this such a successful, and truly enjoyable event.
And … a few photos of the day …
