St. Patrick's Day Parade

edgeNiche.com had a great article that called out Davenport, IA as number 3 on the list of "The 10 Best Cities to celebrate St. Patrick's Day." After this great day Saturday I have to whole heartedly agree. What a blast!
The article describes Davenport, IA and the Quad Cities as "the only bi-state St. Patrick's Day Parade in the U.S. followed by a Post Parade Bash filled with Irish revelry".
Indeed it was!
Check out my photos of the parade and some of the revelry that followed.

Brent Hanlin 50th Birthday

edgeFamily and friends gathered at the Venue for Brent Hanlin's 50th Birthday. Tracy pulled off a miracle and the surprise party was actually a surprise. Click through for a few photos of the evening celebration.

Rock Of Ages PARTY

edgeIf you know me, you realize I have a strange obsession with the movie and the musical “Rock of Ages”. I just find it hilarious! And … what a great theme for a party! So … welcome to the first annual Rock of Ages party. Thanks for Meghan McLaughlin for all the great photos.

Fashion For Pawz

edgeFashion for Pawz is a great event Pam Ontiveros holds annually as a fund raiser for the Humane Society. It’s a great cause and just a fun evening to see a little fashion, some cute dogs, and great looking models! Here are a few photos of the event.

Marilou Portrait

edgeMarilou asked if I could do some head shots of her that she could use on LinkedIn, etc. Of course, I was happy to oblige. I proposed ... something with a nice clean white background? She politely countered with, “Yup or natural (blur the background).” Ahhh ... a little bokeh then ... I can do that. So, here’s what we ended up with ... she looks great. And ... here are a few more from the session.

Celtic Festival / Rita Horses

edgeRita asked me to come capture a few photos of her Gypsy Vanner Horses during the Celtic festival. They are beautiful!

SHCC Team Play and Cardboard Regatta

edgeBrian Soucinek tees off during a 4 team playoff to determine 3rd place at Short Hill’s team play event. Ben Hansen’s team won the event going away ...
The extended playoff delayed the annual cardboard regatta. It was a beautiful day so no one minded. Another great fun event at the pool.
I grabbed a few photos of golf, cardboard boat races and people around the pool. Take a look.

Keaton's Graduation Party

edgeLots of friends showed up to celebrate Keaton’s Graduation! Congratulations Keaton!!
Of Course I snapped a few photos of the evening.

Ethan's 5th Birthday

edgeEthan throws out the first pitch of the River Bandits game for his 5th Birthday. Here are a few photos of the evening.

Ruggles "Blue" Party

edgeAnother great Ruggles “dress up” party. This year the theme is “Blue” (in case you didn’t notice). It was another fun evening with great music, great food, great atmosphere and wonderful friends. Join me in remembering the evening in photos.

Tenth Annual Kentucky Derby Party

edgeIt’s been 10 years that I’ve been having Kentucky Derby parties and I love every one of them. It’s always a great time to bring great friends together and, oh yes, there’s the most exciting two minutes of sports that occurs then. All ingredients for a fun party. Check out some photos of the event.

Korndorf Resort 2012

edgeThe Korndorf’s were kind enough to invite us up for a great day at the Korndorf resort. We all had a great time. Tubing, skiing, kneeboarding, etc. Take a look.

I'll Have Another wins Kentucky Derby!

edge
I’ll admit, I don’t research the horses for the Kentucky Derby very thoroughly. Since they are all three year olds, the horses are really pretty unknown with just a short year of racing as experience. Don’t get me wrong, I love the Kentucky Derby since it is almost always a fantastic, exciting race to watch, has a great spectacle to it, and is just a great excuse for a spring time party.

Anyway … back to the race … I placed my bets on three horses:
  • Take Charge Indy - Calvin Borel was aboard as the jockey and we’ve seen him with the Kentucky Derby quite a few times.
  • Bodemeister - The favorite.
  • I’ll Have Another - My long shot pick since I just liked the name.
It was a very exciting race with Bodemeister taking the early win and threatening to take it wire to wire. I was cheering him on down the final stretch when out of the pack came another horse to clip him right at the end. Who is that … it was hard to see the silks and the number … and there it was, out of the 19th chute where a horse has never won from, came I’ll Have Another. And well … my long shot favorite came home to pay $30 to win!

Thanks to everyone who came out to help celebrate, Bill Lewis and John Bollart for manning the Art Studio, and Chris Dufour for the fantastic photos of the day!

Kentucky Derby Time!

edgeIt’s Kentucky Derby Time! This coming Saturday is the 138th running of the most exciting 2 minutes in sports and it’s time for another Howell Kentucky Derby party. Kimberly and I and looking forward to seeing all of our friends and cheering on another Kentucky Derby. Just as a reminder, here are a few photos of last years event that my friend Chris Dufour was generous to photograph for us. Great shots Chris! Thank you so much.

Rita's Suprise Birthday Party

Thank you all for coming and making this such a great event. This year we even had our own “race” horses in the backyard!. Extra thanks go to Chris Dufour for his great photographic skills. Here are a few photos of the day.

Next year we’ll be back on Kentucky Derby weekend. Mark your calendars for the first Saturday in May!!!
